Tom Sukup
With a career that spanned the entire 26-year history of AWA, "The AWA Clipper" was a true fixture in the lineup. The self-proclaimed "Greatest Player Ever to Wear an AWA Uniform" wasn't bad during his AWA career, copping two MVPs (16 years apart!), winning Gold Gloves in three different decades, and, in 1984, going the entire season without making an error! A brilliant outfielder in his younger days, Tom used to patrol center field back at a time when AWA employed a three outfielder alignment, and he held the left center field position until, at the age of 50, he just didn't have the legs for it any more. A one man fashion statement, Tom wore always wore cords instead of baseball pants. And if they tore, he'd just go buy another pair. "Zeke" finished out his AWA career hitting the ball better than ever, including one stretch in which he reached base safely in 21 consecutive at bats, giving the new guys a glimpse of his past greatness. The "Clipper" made news in 1997 when he collected the 10,000th hit in AWA history.
