Tim joined AWA in 1997 after years of being on the field for the other guys. Going back to the '70s, Tim played against us for a variety of teams, including a very good Sunnyvale Valve and Fit team that just KILLED us a couple of times back in 1993 (he always wore his team jacket just to antagonize the coach). Naturally, it took being old and over the hill before we could finally get him to play for AWA. "Timer" was a terrific hitter and great clutch player who pulled out a couple of dramatic wins for AWA in our highly successful 1997 season. He was also the only player to get tagged by the "no profanity" rule -- in fact, he was nailed twice. Not that Tim swore any more than the rest of us. He just got caught. It must have been that distinctive squeaky voice. A Mets fan who distained outfielders as "grass monkeys", Tim went AWOL midway through the '98 season, emerging from the shadows a year later committed to permanent retirement. But his short stay with the club was a blast. |
