A speedy little outfielder who played with a lot of heart and emotion, Mike made his mark in AWA lore with one of the most painful defensive plays in team history, taking a drive hit to the warning track in left field flush on the mouth and then holding on for the catch! The result was several stitches, a few loose teeth, and one well-earned putout. The effervescent outfielder had his fair share of bad luck offensively as well, as each team's highlight film defensive play would seem to come in Mike's at bat. The man with ice under his feet gave us some thrills and spills in the outfield, but Mike's effort was never less than 100%. He took credit as Buddy Grimm's hitting coach until Buddy stopped hitting. A favorite target of Joe Sammut's wrath, Mike was one of the few guys who would actually yell back. |
