It had been many years since a player made the kind of impact Freddy had on the team during his two seasons with the club. Quickly finding his spot as the #2 hitter in the lineup, Fred batted .652 and .686 for his two remarkable AWA campaigns, most of his hits coming on opposite-field line drives. His aggressive baserunning and total disregard for his body drove opposing defenses crazy, while his glovework in the infield solidified an aging AWA defense. Fred was overwhelmingly voted by his teammates as Most Valuable Player for both the 1999 and 2000 seasons, and it's a shame that we could not have kept the team together just to watch Freddy play in future years. |
