Here is where we celebrate those who have achieved the dream of golfers everywhere -- a hole in one. But to get noted here, the elusive ace has to occur in an AWAGA sanctioned event. And with that restriction, only three have recorded a "one" on the scorecard. Adding irony to scarcity, in a club that has been historically about 90% male, all of the recorded holes in one have been made by women.
Stacey Brown got the first one in 2005. Playing in that year's Neil Christie Cup, Stacey teed it up on the 147-yard 16th hole at Empire Ranch in Folsom. The shot landed short of the hole and rolled several yards before dropping into the hole.
In 2008, playing in the Scramble at the Lake tournament, Kim Moreno looked at the 107-yard second hole at Lake Tahoe Golf Course. Kim was a novice to golf, and this round was the first she had ever played on a regulation course. But Kim landed her shot just off the green, got a fortuitous hop, and watched it rattle home for the ace.
The club was at Genoa Lakes for the 2015 version of the Scramble at the Lake, when Lisa Bagley stared down the 127-yard 14th hole. Her shot was picture perfect, hopped once, and dropped into the cup. This shot proved to be additionally important as it led her team to the tournament championship that year.
Of course, as is the custom, we all knew who was buying at the bar!
